Do you have any other comments, questions or concerns?
The presenter was reading at us the whole time. This could have been pre-recorded on-demand instead of live. The speaker's definition of personal brand is different than any other personal branding course I've taken before. It was not what I was expecting or hoping for. The talk was about how to grow in an admin role instead of about personal branding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Personal branding is increasingly important for administrative professionals because it determines how colleagues, leadership, and external contacts perceive and remember you in a competitive professional landscape. A strong personal brand communicates your skills, values, and professional identity in a consistent and deliberate way — ensuring that others understand what you bring to the table without you having to constantly advocate for yourself. For administrative professionals, whose contributions are often behind the scenes, a visible personal brand can be the difference between being overlooked and being recognized for advancement opportunities. A well-crafted personal brand also reflects positively on the organizations you represent, as clients and stakeholders associate your professionalism with the company's reputation. In today's job market, investing in personal brand development is a concrete career strategy. Administrative professionals who build intentional brands open doors to leadership roles, new projects, and expanded influence.
Developing a strong professional image as an administrative professional involves aligning your behavior, communication, appearance, and digital presence with the impression you want to create. Start by articulating your core professional strengths — what you are known for and what you want to be known for — then audit how your current visibility reflects those attributes. Consistency is essential: your professional image should be coherent across in-person interactions, email communication, LinkedIn profiles, and professional communities you participate in. Administrative professionals can elevate their image by proactively sharing expertise — presenting at team meetings, contributing to internal newsletters, or mentoring colleagues — which demonstrates leadership capability beyond day-to-day task execution. Developing polished communication skills, particularly in written correspondence and presentations, reinforces the perception of credibility and competence. Seeking feedback from trusted mentors or colleagues on how you are perceived helps identify gaps between intention and reality, enabling targeted improvements to your professional brand.
Communication skills are foundational to an administrative professional's personal brand because every interaction — whether in a meeting, email, or phone call — either reinforces or undermines the impression you create. Clear, professional communication signals competence, reliability, and attention to detail, all of which are core attributes of a trusted administrative partner. The ability to communicate upward to executives, laterally with colleagues, and externally with clients requires adaptability in tone and style while maintaining a consistent professional voice. Written communication is particularly brand-defining for administrative roles: well-constructed emails, error-free documents, and thoughtfully crafted correspondence reflect on both the individual and the organization they represent. Strong communicators who can facilitate meetings, manage conflicting priorities diplomatically, and summarize complex information clearly become indispensable contributors whose brand naturally grows through demonstrated value. For administrative professionals seeking career growth, investing in communication training is one of the highest-leverage personal brand investments available.
Increasing professional visibility is a critical component of personal brand building for administrative professionals, who often work in supporting roles where contributions can go unnoticed. Practical visibility strategies include proactively volunteering for cross-functional projects or committee work that exposes you to leaders and colleagues outside your immediate team. Sharing insights or updates in team meetings — rather than remaining silent — builds the perception of engagement and expertise. Maintaining an active and polished LinkedIn profile, engaging with industry content, and connecting with peers in professional associations signals that you take your career seriously. Internal visibility can also be built through knowledge-sharing practices: creating process guides, leading lunch-and-learns, or onboarding new team members positions you as a go-to resource and subject matter expert. Requesting stretch assignments from supervisors demonstrates initiative and creates opportunities to showcase capabilities not visible in day-to-day administrative work. Consistent visibility efforts, over time, transform how leadership perceives and values your contribution.
Showcasing accomplishments is a challenge many administrative professionals struggle with, particularly in cultures where self-promotion can feel uncomfortable. The key is framing achievements in terms of organizational impact rather than personal credit — describing what you did and what results it produced shifts the focus from ego to value. Keeping a running accomplishment log of completed projects, efficiency improvements, cost savings, or problems solved gives you concrete, quantifiable material to draw on during performance reviews, LinkedIn updates, or job searches. Language matters: using active, specific verbs such as 'coordinated,' 'implemented,' 'reduced,' and 'led' conveys agency and ownership. Sharing wins with your manager regularly — even informally through brief updates — keeps your contributions visible and prevents them from being underestimated. When done with appropriate context and humility, regularly communicating your value builds confidence, strengthens relationships with leadership, and accelerates career growth.
