The workplace has evolved. We have moved into the age of remote offices, global enterprises, and automated tasks. The workforce has been called upon to adapt. The need for associates with strong “hard skills”, (the ability to perform result driven tasks), has diminished. And “soft skills”, (the human experience skills), have become the new employee differentiator – success multiplier.

You Are Not A Robot

People are part of our lives, creating relationships with every interaction, both personal and professional.  With each intersection, you have the opportunity to showcase your talents and your strengths.  Hindered by the lack of skill and confidence when navigating the complexities of each dynamic, we impose self-limitations on our performance.  Developing your Power Skill Set will enhance your Interpersonal (between yourself and others) and Intrapersonal (within yourself) behaviors.  By removing the distraction of self-monitoring, you can focus on your production, your success, and your brand.  Your Power Skills become your nature.

Power Skills Covered:

  • Energy Management – This is where it all begins.  With you!  Embrace a growth mindset.  Be a player in the game with sustained energy and purpose.  Motivate yourself to move beyond the task check marks and into the space of career management, self-management.  Take control of your outcomes.
  • Resiliency and Adaptability – As a firm believer that we bring our whole self to each day; that there is no separation between the Personal and Professional you, Julie will take you on a journey where you will prove to yourself, you are a survivor and a thriver.  We are all products of our entire environments.  With a look back, you will gain a new perspective on your view of the future.  You will be reengaged by an insight to your personal resiliency.  By rising to challenges, bouncing back from setbacks, and adapting, we continue to fuel our engagement and success.  Challenge your relationship with change and become a daily leader.
  • Interpersonal Intelligence – Redefine the over-used phrase of Emotional Intelligence.  Showcase your trademark experience through self and social management awareness.  This basic accountability for how we authentically interact with others creates your signature Brand.  We are remembered for how we make others feel.  We remember others for how they made us feel.  There should be no excuses for relationship blindspots.  Set the example.  Be mindful and then move on – move on to productive partnerships.
  • Business Acumen/Service Orientation – Be aware and then, Be there.  Explore the concepts of scope and design thinking.  This is where the hidden opportunities lie.  You can become a center of influence when you develop a keen awareness to the what, the how, and the why.  Your curiosity will fuel your success and your contributions will fuel the collective success of all stakeholders.  This is true Power!
  • Communication – Effective communication is the foundation and key to productivity and promotion.  Ineffective communication can undermine your success.  Improve your communication skills with attention to the details of your message and your message delivery.  In so doing, you will not only optimize the workflow, you will optimize you!
  • Collaboration – Break down the silos of isolation by joining the team and getting your seat at the table.  Julie will help you understand the strength of your strengths and how every team needs someone like you.
  • Critical Creative Thinking – Be a value add, bringing forth your creative ideas.  Move beyond the traditional thinking of “problem solving”.  Not everything needs to be solved.  Perhaps we just need some creative enhancement, or perhaps we need to just let it go.  The application of Critical Creative Thinking will empower you to quickly evaluate the information and then formulate a plan of attack.

As we shift towards diverse and dynamic workspaces, behavioral traits have become the hard skill optimizers.  These soft skills are not soft, nor are they easy to acquire.  They are complex and take dedicated awareness to learn.  Foundational behaviors that can be developed and refined over time.  In turn, they give you the “power” to succeed.

this valuable information was presented in a single four hour block, while the support materials here extremely helpful, the ability to retain this extensive material post training is proving to be a challenge, more in-depth reference and follow on reading material would be very helpful.

The technology was awful and detracted from the entire webinar. The presenter couldn't see the chat when she was asking group questions, and her slide deck kept flip flopping. It was difficult to follow along and the information was generic. I ended up leaving early because it was a waste of time.

A lot of useful information in a very digestible format. The presenter had really distilled the information down and delivered it very effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions

Power skills — formerly called soft skills — are the human experience capabilities that determine how professionals interact with others, manage themselves, navigate complexity, and contribute to collective success. The rebranding from 'soft' to 'power' reflects a growing recognition that these skills are neither soft nor easy to develop: they are complex, deeply impactful, and increasingly the primary differentiator in workplace performance as automation and AI take over routine task execution. In an era of remote offices, global enterprises, and automated workflows, the skills that machines cannot replicate — emotional intelligence, communication, collaboration, critical creative thinking, and resilience — have become the hard skill optimizers that determine who succeeds. Research across organizations consistently shows that professionals who excel in power skills outperform peers with stronger technical backgrounds because they leverage relationships, communication, and adaptability to multiply the output of the technical capabilities they and their teams possess. For administrative professionals and business leaders alike, investing in power skill development is the highest-return professional development choice available — because these skills create value in every interaction and every role.
Energy management — the practice of intentionally managing your physical, emotional, and mental energy to sustain high performance — is the foundation from which all other professional effectiveness emerges. Unlike time management, which treats all hours as equal, energy management recognizes that the quality of your attention and effort varies dramatically based on your current state. Professionals who manage their energy well align their most demanding work with their peak cognitive periods, build recovery into their schedules rather than working until depletion, and approach their careers with a growth mindset that sustains engagement and purpose over time. Energy management also involves motivating yourself beyond the transactional task list — connecting daily work to larger goals and values creates the intrinsic drive that produces sustained performance rather than mere compliance. A growth mindset — the belief that capabilities can be developed through effort and learning — is central to energy management because it transforms setbacks from depleting experiences into informative ones. For administrative professionals operating in high-demand environments, developing personal energy management practices is not a luxury but a professional sustainability strategy. Expert-led power skills training helps professionals develop the self-management foundation from which all other capabilities grow.
Resiliency and adaptability are two of the most critical power skills in contemporary professional life because the pace of organizational change — technological, structural, market-driven — continues to accelerate, making the ability to bounce back from setbacks and flex with changing conditions a daily professional requirement rather than an occasional demand. Resiliency is the capacity to absorb adversity, maintain function under stress, and recover from setbacks without losing engagement or effectiveness. Adaptability is the related but distinct capacity to adjust to new circumstances — new tools, new processes, new team dynamics, new organizational priorities — without requiring extended transition periods or becoming destabilized by the change. Professionals who have developed genuine resiliency and adaptability are not merely coping with change — they are thriving within it, finding opportunity where others find disruption. These capabilities are developed through a combination of self-awareness (understanding your own patterns of response to challenge), perspective-building (looking back at past challenges you have navigated to build confidence in future resilience), and intentional challenge-seeking (taking on experiences that stretch your comfort zone in manageable ways). Teams with resilient, adaptable members navigate organizational disruption significantly more effectively than those without these capabilities.
Interpersonal intelligence — the capacity for authentic, aware, and effective interaction with others — is one of the most defining power skills because it shapes how every colleague, client, and leader experiences working with you, which ultimately defines your professional brand. Unlike the over-used framing of emotional intelligence as an innate trait, interpersonal intelligence is a practiced skill set: it involves self-awareness of your impact on others, social awareness of the dynamics in any given interaction, and self-management of your responses even when situations are difficult. Professionals with high interpersonal intelligence understand that they are remembered for how they make others feel — that the emotional residue of every interaction contributes to the cumulative perception of who they are and how valuable they are to have around. This awareness creates accountability for every professional interaction, not just the high-stakes ones. Building interpersonal intelligence requires honest examination of relationship blind spots — the habitual behaviors that inadvertently damage connection — and a commitment to the daily practice of authentic, respectful engagement. When these practices become habitual, interpersonal intelligence stops requiring effort and becomes a natural expression of professional character — the foundation of a genuinely strong and trusted professional brand.
Collaboration and critical creative thinking are two power skills that work synergistically to produce the innovative, high-quality outcomes that neither individual effort nor rigid process can generate alone. Effective collaboration requires breaking down the professional silos that limit information flow and collective problem-solving — contributing actively to team discussions, leveraging the specific strengths each team member brings, and ensuring that all relevant perspectives are heard before decisions are made. Professionals who collaborate well get a seat at the table because they create more value in group settings than they consume. Critical creative thinking — the ability to evaluate incoming information, identify what actually needs to be solved versus what needs creative enhancement or simply release, and formulate an actionable plan — is the intellectual counterpart to collaborative relationship skills. Together, they enable teams to navigate complex problems with both analytical rigor and imaginative possibility, producing solutions that are both feasible and innovative. For administrative professionals who have historically been task-executors rather than strategic contributors, developing both collaboration and critical creative thinking skills is the pathway to elevated professional identity and organizational impact. The Power Skills Masterclass at Aurora Training Advantage provides a comprehensive framework for developing these and other foundational professional behaviors.
