Sheila Coomes

Sheila Coomes, CPA is an accounting educator, firm owner, and tax advisor with more than 22 years of experience across public accounting, industry, and higher education. She is the owner of an independent tax and business consulting practice, providing tax resolution, tax preparation, and strategic advisory services to individuals and small business owners. She also serves as Tax Advisor for a fee-only wealth management firm, where she collaborates with financial advisors to deliver integrated, forward-looking tax planning and compliance.

Sheila spent eight years teaching accounting and auditing at Kansas State University.  She also developed and directed the Herbel Accounting Academy for incoming freshmen pursuing a career in accounting. Known for her clear, people-centered teaching and consulting style, she excels at translating complex accounting and tax concepts into practical, easy-to-understand guidance.

Her professional background includes public accounting at Ernst & Young, where she advanced to Audit Manager, as well as industry leadership roles as Director of Accounting and Controller. Sheila holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kansas State University with an emphasis in taxation.  Sheila is passionate about helping individuals and business owners feel confident and in control of their financial decisions while navigating tax issues and IRS interactions.
