Quite disappointed with this presentation. Did not consider this to be an Advanced course for Word. Too much time spent on Tables. This was a waste of time for anyone with Excel experience. The presenter's mouse and keyboard didn't work for a significant portion of the presentation. Which hindered the audience's ability to follow along. Lack of handouts made it even worse.

Tom Fragle is a very good presenter. Aurora had blocked out my calendar for just 1 hour, but I believe that it may have gone on longer than that - maybe an hour and 40? I had to log out at just under the hour mark as I had another meeting scheduled. There were still 3 or 4 items left for Tom to cover when I logged out and he was just starting one of them. I know I can go back and watch the recorded version, but due to busy schedule all the time, I doubt that I will get that done. :( I'm not angry or upset, just want to be sure that the correct amount of time is allotted when a webinar is being added to calendars. Thank you!

training on word was useful but as a beginner, it went a bit too fast. would be great to have training materials and or agenda on what is being covered before meeting for preview.

Excellent topic and presenter. Would love to have a repeat due to the technical difficulties with his mouse and keyboard.

I thought the information was a little more basic than I was expecting. I don't consider myself an advanced Word user but I knew everything covered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Professionals who move beyond basic Microsoft Word skills unlock capabilities that dramatically improve document quality, efficiency, and professionalism. Mastering table functionality—including nested tables, cell merging, custom borders, and precise formatting—enables creation of complex layouts that look polished and organized. Section breaks and column formatting allow different parts of a document to have different page orientations, headers, footers, and layouts. A table of contents generated from heading styles automatically updates as content changes, saving hours in long documents. Mail merge combines a master document template with a data source to produce personalized letters, labels, or reports at scale—a huge time-saver for HR communications and bulk correspondence. Styles and themes ensure consistent formatting throughout long documents and make global changes instant. Tracking changes and comment management streamline collaborative review. Importing charts and objects from Excel maintains data-linked content. Aurora Training Advantage's Advanced Microsoft Word webinar, led by Microsoft Certified Trainer Tom Fragale with 30 years of experience, covers all of these capabilities in a focused 60-minute on-demand session for professionals ready to make their documents truly stand out.
A table of contents in Microsoft Word is generated automatically from the heading styles applied throughout the document—which is why applying consistent heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3) rather than manually formatted text is essential for documents of any length. To insert a table of contents, place your cursor where you want it—typically at the beginning of the document—then go to the References tab and click Table of Contents. Choose a built-in style or customize the number of heading levels to include, the tab leader, and the formatting. Word generates the TOC instantly, with each entry linked to its location in the document for easy navigation. When content is added or headings change, simply right-click the TOC and select Update Field to refresh it with current page numbers and entries. For long professional documents—reports, manuals, proposals, contracts—an auto-generated TOC is an indispensable navigational aid and a mark of professional document design. Aurora Training Advantage's Advanced Microsoft Word webinar with Tom Fragale covers table of contents creation alongside other advanced document structuring techniques for business professionals.
Mail merge is a Microsoft Word feature that combines a document template with a data source—typically an Excel spreadsheet or Access database—to produce a set of individually customized documents at scale. The most common use cases are personalized letters, addressed envelopes, mailing labels, name badges, and customized reports. The process begins by creating the main document with merge field placeholders—such as First Name, Address, or Department—at the points where individualized content should appear. The data source defines all the unique values for each record. When the merge is executed, Word produces one output document per row of data, with each placeholder replaced by that record's values. Mail merge is a significant time-saver for HR professionals sending benefits enrollment letters, compliance notices, or performance review confirmations—eliminating the manual editing required to personalize each document. It also reduces errors by pulling data directly from a source rather than copying manually. Aurora Training Advantage's Advanced Microsoft Word webinar with Tom Fragale provides a practical walkthrough of the mail merge process with real-world business applications.
Section breaks in Microsoft Word allow different parts of a document to have completely independent formatting—different page orientations (portrait vs. landscape), column layouts, headers and footers, page numbering, and margins—within the same document file. This is essential for professional documents that combine standard portrait text pages with wide landscape tables or charts, or that require a different header for each chapter. A Next Page section break starts a new section on a new page; a Continuous section break starts a new section mid-page, enabling column layout changes within a single page. Column formatting—accessible from the Layout tab—divides a section into two or three columns, useful for newsletters, handouts, and reference documents. Columns can be balanced automatically or broken manually with column break characters. Understanding the interaction between section breaks and header/footer linking is critical for documents where each section needs distinct header content, such as chapter titles or document metadata. Aurora Training Advantage's Advanced Microsoft Word webinar covers sections, columns, and document structuring in depth, giving professionals the skills to create complex, multi-section documents that look and function professionally.
Track Changes and Comments are Microsoft Word's core collaborative review tools, enabling multiple contributors to suggest edits and provide feedback without permanently altering the original document. When Track Changes is enabled (Review tab > Track Changes), every insertion, deletion, and formatting change is marked with the reviewer's name and a timestamp, displayed in a distinct color per reviewer. Reviewers can accept or reject individual changes or all changes at once. Comments attach a note to a specific passage—accessible via the Review tab > New Comment—and can be replied to, creating a threaded discussion visible to all collaborators. When sending a document for review, it is best practice to enable Track Changes before distributing and to request that reviewers keep it on throughout their edits. Before finalizing a document for official use, always accept or reject all tracked changes and resolve all comments, then use the Document Inspector to ensure no hidden markup remains. Understanding how to manage markup visibility—showing all markup, only comments, or final view—is essential for document review workflows. Aurora Training Advantage's Advanced Microsoft Word webinar with Tom Fragale covers collaboration tools in depth for professionals who regularly work on shared documents.
