Depending on the severity of your employee’s health condition (or a family member’s health condition), your employee may need to utilize all available time under the FMLA and maybe more.  The only statute that provides absolute job protection for these types of leaves of absences is the FMLA.  But what kind of protections do employees have beyond the twelve weeks.

In this webinar, we will cover:

  • Proper calculation of the twelve weeks under the FMLA
  • Interaction with leave protection under the FMLA, ADA, and workers’ compensation
  • How to handle employees who request an indefinite leave of absence
  • Applying your STD and LTD policies
  • When can you terminate for failure to return from a leave

Given the title, I thought the majority of content would focus on the specifics of when leaves extend beyond 12 weeks. This was addressed, but not in the depth that I thought it would be.

I don't have any issue with the presenter, but this was not what we were hoping it was going to be based on the title of the webinar. While it might have been helpful for someone who doesn't know much about FMLA, it really didn't cover any new territory for our team. We were looking for strategies in dealing with someone who can't/won't return after FML exhaustion and a good part of the presentation was on ADA vs. FMLA. Somewhat relevant, yes, but the bulk of the presentation should have concentrated on the the end of the FML period. TBH, the title of the webinar was somewhat misleading.

the sound wasn't the best quality and sounded echoed - like the speaker was in a big room and not using a microphone or headset.
