Effective workplace investigations depend on interviews that are structured, neutral, and skillfully managed. For HR professionals and management, interviewing reluctant, hostile, evasive, or highly emotional witnesses can make gathering reliable information especially challenging. This webinar provides practical workplace investigation interview techniques for navigating difficult witness interactions while obtaining the facts needed to support sound workplace decisions. Participants will explore strategies for building rapport, asking effective questions, maintaining control of the interview, and documenting responses to support a fair and defensible investigation.

The program also examines common interviewing mistakes that can undermine credibility and the investigation process, including asking leading questions, reacting defensively, and losing neutrality when a witness becomes difficult. Attendees will gain practical strategies for managing challenging conversations, improving interview outcomes, strengthening investigation records, and approaching difficult workplace investigation interviews with greater confidence and consistency.

I would love to see an advanced version of this. I feel this was more intermediate and for those learning about FMLA. I would love to see one touch base more on WC with FMLA.

The subject of the training was about Complaints intertwined with performance issues. As a trained investigator, I felt too much of the time was spend on general information about a good investigation (good materials and this part was well presented) but I did not learn anything new from this training which is reflected in my answers to the survey. I was expecting more time to be spent on how to detangle the performance issues from the complaint, with more than one example of a very poorly run investigation. I think this training would have been better marketed as a intro investigatory training. I did appreciate the review of best practices for an investigation, and I like how the presented presented the information. It just did not meet my expectations based on the title for which I signed up.
