Time off for a headache?  Intermittent leave for arthritis?  More so than ever, employees are requesting accommodations in the workplace for what arguably may be disabilities under the Americans With Disabilities Act.  This presentation will focus on what is and is not a disability under the ADA, comparing the ADA with the Family Medical Leave Act, and providing best practices and recommended policies to help handle the ADA’s required “interactive process” that employers must engage in when an employee requests an accommodation.  Professionals will also learn the dangers that can be caused  by failing to document the interactive process, and best practices to limit liability when things don’t go as planned.

Agenda:

  • Summary of Current ADA laws
  • Comparing and Contrasting ADA and FMLA
  • Understanding importance of interactive process
  • Effective use of interactive process and identifying best practices and policies
  • Hypothetical situations with examples
  • Question and Answer

I joined the webinar 4 minutes late and was told by Kathleen Colon that I do not qualify to receive recertification credits because I was not in attendance the entire time...what kind of bullshit is that? Most of the opening comments and introductions are not relevant to the content anyway. Poorly done Aurora Training Advantage...couldn't be more disappointed right now.

In the email I received to provide feedback, it didn't state which session I was to evaluate. I was a little confused in that I attended two sessions in the same day. It would be helpful if either the email or the survey form explained which session I'm evaluating. That said, I feel the description of the session was a little misleading. I assumed basic dress appearance issues would be covered and instead the focus was mainly on appearance as it related to religious beliefs. I would like to see a session that is more general in nature.

I just felt like most of the materials/information provided is easily found online. I would have really like to get into more depth of:What should employers look at when considering off duty conduct. What type of policies should be considered/addressed.How does laws/policies support to handle off duty conduct.Maybe help defining what she termed as "bottom line" . what should we consider as an employer.
