INTRODUCTION:

This will be the initial article of three (3). The titles are: THE FIVE (5) STEP MODEL; BRAIN STORMING METHODOLOGY; ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS.

STRUCTURE - TEAM CREATION:

This is one of the first factors in doing problem solving.

  • EMPLOYEE INVOLVEMENT & EMPOWERMENT:
    • Group of people dedicated to a common goal.
    • Identify the stakeholders.
      • People with a vested interest – includes manager, employees, customers, suppliers.
    • Individuals involved in the process being addressed.
      • Take advantage of their respective expertise, intelligence & creativity
    • Empower them – providing them decision making responsibility/authority.
    • They will build on each other’s strengths which will compensate for each other’s weaknesses.
    • Schedule time for dialogue & problem solving.

By doing these alignment adjustments, it is preparing the organization to deal with change and overcome the gap between organizational performance and expectations!

    THE PROCESS IMPROVEMENT MODEL:

There are five (5) steps in this model. Their identity and function follow:

    1. STEP ONE (1):
      1. There is a NEED TO DEFINE THE PROBLEM – the definition of a problem per "Websters Dictionary" - A matter involving doubt or difficulty, something requiring a solution.
      2. This means that we need to understand the process impacted and be able to identify the current situation.
    2. STEP TWO (2):
      1. Perform PROBLEM ANALYSIS:
        1. We need to utilize tools of "BRAIN-STORMING & CAUSE & EFFECT ANALYSIS"(which are the second & third articles to follow)
    3. STEP THREE (3):
      1. Perform/determine SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM:
        1. We will again employ the tools of Brainstorming and Cause & Effect Analysis to aide us in ascertaining multiple solutions.
        2. These solutions will include time and cost for each.
          1. Denote for each the four (4) W’s – WHO, WHAT, WHERE & WHY
            1. Establishing costs, time required, anticipated results with their respective probabilities.
      2. Select the best solution based on information determined from step 3aii1a.
    4. STEP FOUR (4):
      1. IMPLEMENT CHOSEN SOLUTION:
        1. Obtain a "CHAMPION" that will support the solution plan. Use selected team members for assignments associated with their being the respective stakeholders.
        2. Employ follow-up meetings to update progress and subsequently communicate with enterprises leadership.
    5. STEP FIVE (5):
      1. ASSESS RESULTS:
        1. Ensure the problem has been eliminated/reduced significantly such that it will not recur.
        2. Communicate to the leadership and general company population regarding the success achieved
          1. CELEBRATE
      2. Look for the next problem to address.
