As an HR Mgr. for over 30 years, I have dealth with FMLA and I agree it is overwhelming and cumbersome. As a presenter I wouldn't provide your own opinions on how overwhelming it is or your political views. It isn't necessary. This whole ideaology when created was for serious health conditions. Today this topic is so over legislated and abused. I was totally looking for helpful hints in dealing with the overall abuse. In this day and age, we can NOT give the employee everything they want and advising employers to do so is wrong. Businesses don't stay in business when you do that. People may be inherently good but when given total freedom, it is taken advantage of and abused. So many physicians in our geographical area do whatever the employee requests, not what would be expected as reasonable for a particular health condition. We do everything we can to assist employees, but we also make them follow the rules.

Perhaps presenter should not voice her own opinion on FMLA and polical issues, but instead should state facts. Presenter gave employers no guidance for combating FMLA abuse, but instead stated that if you want to attract and retain employees you have no choice other than to give them what they want. Please-- get in the real world of FMLA compliance and abuse. We live it. This course leads people to belieive that employers have no options. Very disappointing.

While 90 minutes is not a short amount of time, I do wish this were longer or perhaps a 2 part series as the FMLA topic can certainly keep on going! But the session was great and very useful for me as someone newly working with employees on FMLA. Wendy broke the topic down into sections that made sense and were easy to follow.
